3 Tips On How To Keep Seniors From Falling

Posted by Ruby Cemental on Oct 6, 2015 7:00:00 PM

When a younger person trips and falls, most of the time embarrassment is the most serious repercussion. Unfortunately, when a senior falls, it can have lethal consequences. Fortunately, many falls can be prevented with the right preparation and knowledge. We've come up with 3 tips on how to keep seniors from falling:

  1. Know Your Medications: If you or an older loved one is taking medications, learn about all the potential side effects. Do they cause drowsiness or sleepiness? This is all extremely important information that could help a senior avoid a fall.
  2. Keep Up With The Exercise: Lack of muscle tone is a huge reason that seniors fall. Every older person should make a concerted effort to get as much exercise as they can. This will help them to maintain good strength and help prevent falls.
  3. Poor Vision: Bad eyesight leaves seniors at great risk for tripping, falling and stumbling. Regular eye exams should be a must for any senior.

One of the best things a senior can do to avoid falling is to ask for help. Help with exercising, adjusting to medication or asking for a ride to see the doctor us no easy task for a, independent person, but it's important.
